What
Is a Citation?
Information required to
identify a particular text.
In general:
- A book citation includes author, title,
publisher and year of
publication.
- A journal citation includes author, article
title and
periodical title, date, volume and page numbers.
- An Internet citation includes author, article
title and website
title, date updated or uploaded, date you viewed it, and the webpage's
URL or a note indicating it as a web source.
Typically, you will
provide a short note within the text of
your work that relates to a list of works cited or bibliography that you
include at the end of your work.
A style manual can
help guide you in using the citation format
that is best suited to your area of study. Always ask your professor to
indicate what style manual they want you to use!
